Plain text is encrypted into cipher text using a key (or cipher). The cipher text cannot be read by anyone other than the sender and the receiver. The receiver decrypts the cipher text back into plain text using the key. Encryption provides four key dimensions of e-commerce security: message integrity, nonrepudiation, authentication, and confidentiality.
